Syrian woman Zizof Ali has sparked widespread sympathy on social media, especially after refusing to leave her home despite the raging fires in western Syria reaching the outskirts of her village, Ain al-Ward. According to the Syrian platform "Rozana," which published the woman's story and photos, Zizof refused to leave her home in the village of Ain al-Ward, located in the heart of the Al-Ghab Plain in the western Hama countryside, despite the flames. It added that "the smell of smoke fills the place, and the heat stings her face, while the sounds of burning rise from afar, but the septuagenarian woman refused to leave." The Syrian Civil Defense faces great difficulties, most notably the scarcity of water sources and the ruggedness of the areas, in extinguishing the fires that expanded on Tuesday night in the mountains of villages and towns in the Al-Ghab Plain in the western Hama countryside. The people of the Al-Ghab regions rushed to help and work alongside the Civil Defense to prevent the fires from spreading and combat their spread. The director of civil defense in Latakia said that the rugged terrain, the density of trees, and the high wind speed made the fire spread quickly, and it has become difficult to control these fires, which broke out two days ago and spread from the Al-Ghab Plain in the Hama countryside to Jableh in the Latakia countryside.
