UN warning: 5.5 million women in Yemen lack reproductive health services.

The United Nations has warned of the continued rise in maternal mortality rates in light of difficult humanitarian conditions and a severe shortage of qualified health personnel. The United Nations Population Fund said in a statement published on the (X) platform that about 5.5 million women in Yemen lack basic reproductive health services, while 6 out of 10 births take place without a qualified midwife, which increases health risks for mothers and newborns. It pointed to the Fund's commitment to supporting the health sector in Yemen, referring to special programs that enable young women to enter the field of nursing and midwifery, with the aim of training a new generation of midwives to save lives and provide vital health care in the most needy communities. The UN warnings come at a time when Yemen is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, as the ongoing war for years has led to the collapse of the health system and increased challenges for women and girls to access medical care.
