The National Women's Committee organized a consultative workshop on Sunday in the interim capital, Aden, to review and discuss the draft comprehensive national report (ninth, tenth, and eleventh) on the level of implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. The head of the committee, Dr. Shafika Saeed, said that the workshop represents a pivotal step in the path of Yemen's commitments towards women's issues, pointing to the committee's efforts to enhance women's presence in legislation and public policies and empower them with their rights in education, health, work, and participation in decision-making. She added that the report reflects the actual reality of the situation of Yemeni women with all objectivity and transparency, as it is the result of participatory national work in which state institutions, civil society organizations, and partner entities participated, appreciating the support provided by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). For her part, the representative of UN Women in Yemen, Dina Zorba, affirmed the importance of effective cooperation between national and international parties, explaining that the report represents an essential tool for evaluating national policies related to women's rights, and identifying gaps that require more efforts to achieve equality and full empowerment of Yemeni women.
