Yemen: Aden.. First conference to present a policy paper to enhance the status of women in the police force

Arab Sea - Follow-ups: A conference was held today, Sunday, in the capital, Aden, to present a policy paper entitled "Enhancing Women's Participation in the Police: Challenges and Opportunities," as part of the project "Promoting Inclusive Access to Justice for Women and Girls - Aden 2025," funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with Afaq Youth Foundation. Brigadier General Faisal Saleh, Assistant Director-General of Aden Police, delivered a welcoming speech, praising the Aden Police leadership's interest, represented by Major General Mutahhar Al-Shuaibi, in empowering women within the security institution and enhancing their role in protecting society and building trust between citizens and security personnel, both men and women. Brigadier General Saleh explained that the conference represents a pivotal point for developing security policies for female police officers, ensuring a safe and stimulating work environment for them, and enhancing their participation in security and field leadership positions. For her part, Brigadier General Wazeera Mohammed Abdullah, Director of the Family Protection Department at Aden Security and Head of the Women's Police Group, expressed her happiness at the establishment of the Women's Police Group, pointing to the achievements it has made in enhancing its role in society. She stressed that the effective participation of women in security work requires continuous training and qualification, emphasizing that police work for women is not just a job, but a humanitarian mission that requires sacrifice, courage, and dedication. Brigadier General Wazeera pointed to the efforts made by the Director-General of Aden Police, Major General Mutahhar Al-Shuaibi, in supporting and empowering female police officers and giving them the opportunity to assume leadership positions within security centers. The conference included the presentation of several working papers, where Dr. Rosa Al-Khamri reviewed the challenges and opportunities facing the enhancement of female police participation. Brigadier General Dr. Abdulsalam Saleh added the importance of women's role in bringing about societal change. Professor Al-Anoud Al-Qafan, representative of the Geneva Call organization, presented a report on the role of women in the work of civil society organizations to enhance the security system. Brigadier General Aliya Saleh Omar, Director of the General Department of Family Protection, concluded that the launch of the policy paper represents a pivotal step towards enhancing women's participation in the police, noting that the discussions that took place during the conference will be translated into recommendations to be submitted to the competent authorities for action.
