Arab Sea_Reports: A new report by the British organization "Save the Children" revealed that 2024 was the deadliest year for children since documentation of violations against them in armed conflicts began, warning that the world is witnessing a "systematic destruction of childhood." According to the report issued today, Thursday, about 12,000 children were killed or injured around the world during the past year, the highest number recorded since 2006, and 42% higher than in 2020. The organization explained that explosive weapons have become the main cause of this record number, with battlefields shifting from rural areas to densely populated urban areas, making children more likely to die or be injured inside their homes, schools, and hospitals. Narmina Stretchenets, an official at the organization, said: "Rockets are falling where children sleep, play, and learn... Their homes and schools have become death traps." The report stressed that children are more vulnerable to the effects of explosive weapons than adults, both in terms of injury and medical response. The deadliest conflicts against children in 2024 included: - The Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip (which resulted in the death of about 20,000 children according to the report) - The war in Sudan. - The conflict in Burma (Myanmar). - The war in Ukraine. - The situations in Syria and the West Bank. The organization called for an international investigation and accountability for those responsible for violations against children, and the imposition of strict protection mechanisms in conflict zones, stressing that what is happening represents an "unprecedented moral collapse in the protection of childhood."
