((Arab Sea)) Follow-ups: On Friday, the Public Prosecutor's Office in France demanded that Paris Saint-Germain player Achraf Hakimi be brought to trial on charges of rape. The Public Prosecution told Agence France-Presse that the Nanterre prosecutor's office "requested, on Friday, that the Moroccan international player in Paris Saint-Germain, Achraf Hakimi, be referred to the local criminal court in Hauts-de-Seine on charges of rape, which he denies, against a young woman in 2023." The Nanterre Public Prosecutor's Office explained: "The Public Prosecutor's Office today referred to the investigating judge in charge of this criminal investigation requests to refer the accused to the local criminal court of Hauts-de-Seine on charges of rape. It is now up to the judge to make his decision within the framework of his judicial order." For its part, the newspaper "Le Parisien" reported that the Public Prosecutor's Office in France has filed formal charges against Hakimi, against the background of suspicions related to the rape of a woman in his home. According to the newspaper, the Public Prosecutor's Office in the city of Nantes requested that Hakimi, 26, be referred to the Criminal Court on charges of rape, a charge that could carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The Spanish newspaper "AS" revealed that Hakimi expressed to his friends his feeling of betrayal after these accusations were made against him. The details of the case date back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman reported that she had met Hakimi through private messages on the "Instagram" application, and the conversations between them continued for more than a month. On a Friday, she traveled to his home near Paris for their first meeting, using a taxi that the player had ordered for her. While she was there, according to her account, Hakimi raped her despite her attempts to resist him, but she was eventually able to leave the house. The woman said that she sent a text message to a friend asking her to come and accompany her, and that friend confirmed this account in her statement to the police. On the same day, the victim reported the incident to the police, without initially filing a formal complaint, but she later handed them messages she had sent to her friends reflecting her condition after the incident. On March 3, 2023, the investigating judge formally charged Hakimi with rape and placed him under judicial supervision after he was detained and the Public Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal investigation. The player denied during the investigations that he had committed any assault or rape. On December 8, 2023, Hakimi confronted the woman who accused him in the office of the investigating judge, where she reaffirmed her account, while the player continued to deny the charge. During the investigation period, Hakimi insisted that the whole matter was "a conspiracy" by the plaintiff in order to obtain financial gains, which the latter categorically denied. In a press interview he gave in January 2025, Hakimi said: "The truth is that when you succeed and things go well for you, you become an easy target for some people. I have learned not to trust many of those around me. They tried to blackmail me, and that is why we filed a complaint, and everything is going well. Justice has dealt with the matter as it should." However, "Le Parisien" indicated that the prosecution adopted the plaintiff's account, after requesting that the case be referred to the Criminal Court, while the plaintiff's lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, stated: "My client is receiving this development with great relief."
