Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: Today, Monday, the Prime Minister, Dr. Salem Saleh bin Brik, directed an investigation into the irregularities related to granting random construction permits that caused the closure of flood channels, and the failure to comply with specifications in the implementation of road projects, and the resulting repeated damage in the same areas, while holding those responsible accountable and obligating the competent authorities to study the soil and adhere to the approved urban plans. This came during the Prime Minister's chairing of a government meeting in the interim capital, Aden, to discuss the repercussions of the recent floods. The meeting affirmed the necessity of protecting the lives of citizens and that it remains a top priority, directing the rapid reopening of roads, repairing electricity and water networks, and implementing urgent campaigns to drain rainwater from neighborhoods and streets in a way that preserves public health and reduces the spread of epidemics. The meeting approved the start of the implementation of the waterway project in the Al-Wadi Al-Kabir area in Aden, through the construction of protection walls and paving the course with stones to drain floods and avoid disasters, while removing all random encroachments located within its path and preserving the sanctity of the valley in accordance with the guiding plan for Aden Governorate 2005-2025 AD. It also approved the establishment of an emergency center to unify efforts to confront disasters and climate changes at the central and local levels. The meeting stressed the cessation of random construction in flood channels and valleys and the criminalization of encroachment on them, and the strengthening of coordination with international partners to develop humanitarian response programs and protect cities from climate risks, renewing the government's commitment to support citizens and alleviate their suffering in the affected areas.
