Arab Gulf - Follow-ups: Egypt warned on Thursday against what it called an "approach of arrogance of power," in its latest comment on the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip. A statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Egypt is following with great concern the Israeli government's continued implementation of a plan for an attack by the occupation forces aimed at controlling cities in the Gaza Strip, in a new attempt to consolidate its illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories, and in flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law." The statement continued: "Egypt expresses its strong disapproval of the escalating Israeli policies and the expansion of its occupation of the Palestinian territories, whether in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip, and the continuation of systematic crimes against innocent civilians and the continued planning to displace Palestinians from their land, which will lead to fueling the deteriorating situation." It considered that this "reflects a complete disregard on the part of Israel for the efforts of mediators and the proposed deal to cease fire, release hostages and prisoners, and the flow of humanitarian aid, and for international demands to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people after nearly two years of steadfastness in the face of blatant Israeli violations." The statement added: "Egypt warns that the approach of arrogance of power, and the persistence in violating international law to serve narrow political interests or flimsy beliefs, is a grave miscalculation resulting from the decline and weakness of the international justice system and will lead to further escalation in the region, and its dire consequences will continue on relations between the peoples of the region, and even on regional and international peace and security for many years to come." Egypt called on the international community to intervene urgently to put an end to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and to stop the crimes committed against innocent Palestinian civilians in the Strip. The Foreign Ministry statement concluded: "Egypt calls on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, to prevent further deterioration of the situation in the region and the exacerbation of instability in the Middle East, as a result of the blatant and unprecedented Israeli violations of international laws and norms."
