Arabian Sea - Yemen - Special: The Houthi group arrested, today Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the General People's Congress Party, Sana'a wing, Ghazi Al-Ahwal, along with a number of his companions in Sana'a, and took them to an unknown location, according to sources close to the party. This incident comes as part of a wide-ranging campaign launched by the group against leaders of the General People's Congress Party, coinciding with the 43rd anniversary of the party's founding, which was scheduled to be celebrated on August 24. Yesterday, the Sana'a wing of the General People's Congress Party announced the cancellation of any celebratory events for the anniversary of its founding, and the party issued a statement saying that this comes in solidarity with what is happening in terms of war and starvation in Gaza. The statement issued by the General People's Congress on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of its founding carried a political dimension that goes beyond the celebratory form to adopting a mobilization discourse consistent with the priorities of Ansar Allah (the Houthis), as the party announced the cancellation of any mass or media events to celebrate the occasion, justifying this by supporting Gaza. However, reading between the lines - according to analysts - reveals that the decision was not a completely voluntary choice, but rather came under direct pressure from the Houthi leadership, which sought to impose its discourse and highlight its presence as the umbrella for the political scene in Sana'a. Confirming that the wording of the statement clearly reflects that the General People's Congress has become forced to adapt its positions and show public political loyalty in line with the Houthi discourse, in exchange for avoiding any appearance of independence that may raise sensitivities or be interpreted as crowding, competition, or independence in decision-making.
