During a meeting he held today, Thursday, with the Director General of the Yemeni General Petroleum and Gas Corporation, Muhammad Thabet, and the Executive Director of the Yemeni Gas Company, Mohsen bin Wahait, the Prime Minister stressed that domestic gas is a basic commodity that affects the lives of every family, and any manipulation of its prices or deviation in its distribution is a direct infringement on the lives of citizens and their livelihood security. He affirmed the government's determination to break any rings of corruption or monopoly in this vital sector. The Prime Minister directed a review of gas transportation fees, an end to illegal levies, and the unification of sales prices for major consumers and agents, in order to immediately reflect on reducing gas prices sold to citizens, reducing the large difference between the official selling price in Safer, which is 3,550 riyals per cylinder, and what reaches the consumer, and setting a reasonable profit margin. He emphasized closing unlicensed gas stations in cooperation with local authorities and stopping supplying them with gas. He also directed to stop granting any new licenses for gas stations, to submit a list of new and old stations, and the extent of their compliance with safety standards and selling to consumers at reasonable prices without manipulation or exaggeration, and to take legal measures against violators. The Prime Minister stressed the necessity that the strategic gas reserve for the governorates should not be outside of them, to end this unacceptable situation, and to implement follow-up and control mechanisms to prevent smuggling and manipulation. He affirmed taking all measures to prevent the recurrence of any bottlenecks in the availability of domestic gas, and to avoid what happened during the past months. For their part, the directors of the Petroleum and Gas Corporation and the Gas Company affirmed their commitment to implementing the directives of the Prime Minister and working to translate them into reality in a way that reflects on reducing gas prices for consumers. They reviewed the challenges and obstacles that double the cost of domestic gas cylinders and proposals to solve them, including the imposed improvement fees and local levies and proposals to solve them, in addition to strengthening monitoring and follow-up mechanisms by publishing official prices and imposing penalties on violators and adjusting transportation costs in proportion to the decrease in oil derivatives prices.
