Arab Sea_Yemen_Exclusive: Angry protesters attacked shops in the Al-Mukha intersection market in the Mawza district, west of Taiz Governorate, under the pretext of not adhering to price reductions in line with the improvement in the national currency's exchange rate. Local sources said that some of the protesters, who came out to demand lower commodity prices, threw stones and sticks at shops and forced them to close. The sources indicated that the attacks forced a number of merchants to close their shops and leave the market, after one of the vendors was assaulted, in addition to material damage to some shops. This escalation comes days after the Yemeni riyal recovered about 45% of its value against the dollar, but food prices have not seen a decrease commensurate with the improvement in the exchange rate. The Yemeni riyal continues to stabilize against foreign currencies, following measures taken by the Central Bank to curb speculation and enhance monetary stability, recording 425 riyals against the Saudi riyal, and 1617 riyals against the US dollar.
