Yemen: Cabinet issues important decision regarding the ban on the use of foreign currencies

Arabian Sea _ Yemen _ Special: The Council of Ministers in the Republic of Yemen issued Resolution No. (13) of 2025 AD, regarding the prohibition of using foreign currencies as an alternative to the national currency in commercial, service, and financial transactions within the country, in a step aimed at strengthening the position of the Yemeni riyal and maintaining its stability. The decision stipulated that all transactions throughout the liberated regions and governorates of the Republic of Yemen be in the national currency (Yemeni riyal) in all commercial transactions, from buying and selling goods and services to financial commitments, stressing the prohibition of using foreign currencies in these transactions. The decision also stressed the prohibition of using foreign currencies as an alternative to the Yemeni riyal in any commercial or service transactions within the Republic of Yemen that do not require payment in foreign currency, such as tuition fees, medical treatment, rents, travel tickets, and others. The decision tasked the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Justice, Interior, and the governors of the liberated governorates with taking supervisory measures, following up on the implementation of the decision, apprehending violators from the targeted groups, and referring them to the competent authorities in accordance with the law. The Council of Ministers affirmed the necessity of immediately starting the implementation of the decision, while taking appropriate administrative measures, noting that work on it will continue until it is fully implemented, with implementation starting from the date of its issuance on July 30, 2025 AD.
