Yemen: Industry warns merchants against dealing in foreign currency.

Arabian Sea - Yemen: This came during the Minister of Industry and Trade, Muhammad Al-Ashwal's, inspection today of the extent to which merchants in the interim capital, Aden, are committed to reducing prices in accordance with the new price changes. The Minister warned against dealing in hard currency, which negatively affects the purchasing power of citizens. He listened, along with the Director General of Consumer Protection and Competition Promotion, Fadl Suwailih, to the opinions of citizens in a number of commercial centers about the impact of lower prices on their standard of living, and the extent to which merchants are responding to the requirements of the local market. Al-Ashwal pointed out that the Prime Minister, Salem bin Brik, is closely following the Ministry's efforts and its regulatory campaigns to control the prices of basic food and consumer goods. He affirmed that the Ministry will continue its regulatory and field campaigns in all its offices in the governorates, and will not tolerate those who tamper with the livelihood of citizens, and will take strict legal measures against violators.
