Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The Office of the UN Envoy intends to continue providing a platform for dialogue and coordination through the Military Coordination Committee, in support of efforts to de-escalate and reach a peaceful solution to the conflict in Yemen. The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen held a series of technical meetings last week in the Jordanian capital, Amman, bringing together representatives of the Yemeni government and the leadership of the joint forces in the UN-facilitated Military Coordination Committee. The discussions focused on planning and coordination for a possible ceasefire, discussing related security arrangements, and discussing ways to address existing field challenges. These rounds were based on previous meetings held in December 2024 and January 2025 with the same delegations. The Senior Military Advisor in the Office of the UN Envoy, Anthony Hayward, affirmed that the Military Coordination Committee continues to play a vital role in building confidence and reducing tension between the parties, stressing that its work is essential to creating the conditions necessary for a sustainable ceasefire. The talks addressed priority security issues, including de-escalation mechanisms, incident management, and possible options for providing security guarantees. Participants also discussed the implementation of a comprehensive ceasefire on land, sea and air, as part of a broader political agreement, in addition to managing front lines and security arrangements for vital infrastructure, especially energy facilities.
