Arab Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The traffic statistics issued by the General Traffic Police Department stated that traffic accidents in areas under the control of the legitimate government resulted in the deaths of 11 people and injured 45 others, including 27 seriously injured, during the first week of August. The material losses were estimated at about 7.3 million riyals. According to the report, 52 traffic accidents were recorded, divided into 36 vehicle collisions, 12 pedestrian accidents, 3 rollovers, and one collision with a fixed object. Traffic police also recorded 1,865 traffic violations during the same period. The traffic police attributed the causes of these accidents to violations of traffic rules and etiquette, most notably speeding, overloading, incorrect overtaking, distraction from the road, driving while fatigued, and ignoring the instructions of traffic officers, in addition to technical malfunctions of vehicles, reckless driving of motorcycles, driving by minors, neglect of pedestrians, and the poor condition of some roads. In Sana'a, the General Traffic Police Department, which is under the authority of the Houthis, announced a significant decrease in motorcycle accidents by more than 65% during one week of implementing Cabinet Resolution No. (33) regarding the new penalties regulations, considering that this reflects the success of field measures and the increasing commitment of drivers. The department explained, in a statistic published by the traffic media, that accidents related to motorcycles decreased by 65.2%, and injuries and deaths decreased by 75%, with a decrease in the overall total of accidents by 71.05%. According to the statistics, the number of accidents before the implementation of the decision was 46 accidents, resulting in 8 deaths and 60 injuries, while the number decreased after one week of implementation to only 16 accidents, with a death toll not exceeding 2 deaths and 15 injuries. The traffic police confirmed that these numbers reflect "lives saved and families avoided losing their loved ones," stressing the continuation of efforts to reach a safe and developed traffic environment, and a more stable life for citizens.
