Lajj (Arabian Sea) Hisham Ateeri: Local sources in Lahj Governorate said that despite the decrease in foreign currency prices against the Yemeni riyal, food prices in the governorate's markets are still high at a price of 750 riyals per Saudi riyal, which has raised a state of astonishment due to the prices remaining high despite the significant decrease in foreign currency prices. The Governor of Lahj, Ahmed Abdullah Turki, directed the specialists to implement regulatory campaigns to control commodity prices in implementation of the Prime Minister's directives and in line with the improvement in the exchange rate of the national currency against foreign currencies. According to the governorate's media office, the governor of Lahj directed the Industry and Trade Office and the security in the governorate to quickly implement the directives of the Prime Minister, Salem Saleh bin Brik, which stipulate the formation of field teams and the implementation of monitoring and inspection campaigns to control the prices of goods and food supplies, in proportion to the significant improvement in the exchange rate of the national currency. The governor stressed the need to obligate all traders and suppliers of basic and consumer goods to review their current prices and reduce them in line with the decrease in exchange rates, in order to alleviate the burdens on citizens, take into account humanitarian conditions, and demonstrate ethical and national responsibility. The Director General of the Industry and Trade Office in Lahj, Abd Rab Al-Jaafari, based on the governor's directives, issued a circular with the new prices of basic foodstuffs according to the exchange rates of foreign currencies against the Yemeni riyal, especially since the prices were set in Saudi riyals. Al-Jaafari stressed in the circular the need to fully comply with what is stated in the circular, warning that violators will be subject to measures in accordance with the law, calling on the offices of the industry branches in the directorates to follow up on the implementation of this circular in coordination with the security agencies. The circular specified the prices according to the exchange rate. For its part, the Al-Fiyoush police, based on the memorandum issued by the Industry and Trade Office in Lahj, which included the new pricing of basic foodstuffs, which came as a result of the decrease in the exchange rate of the Yemeni riyal against the Saudi riyal, and led by Captain Ibrahim Abdul Rahman Marai, implemented a comprehensive field campaign targeting commercial stores in the Al-Fiyoush area, with the aim of obligating traders to adhere to the official pricing approved by the competent authorities. The Al-Fiyoush police confirmed that this campaign comes within the framework of its security and regulatory role in protecting citizens from commercial exploitation, and it stresses the need for all traders to adhere to the new approved pricing, which was prepared based on the official exchange rate, in order to contribute to alleviating the burden on citizens and confronting unjustified waves of high prices. During the campaign, the director of the Al-Fiyoush police issued a clear warning to anyone who violates the announced pricing, stressing that the necessary legal measures will be taken without any leniency against violators, in order to preserve the public interest and deter anyone who dares to tamper with the livelihood of citizens. He pointed out that this campaign came according to the directives of the Director of Security of Lahj Governorate, Brigadier General Nasser Ali Nasser Al-Shouhati, who stressed the need for all security units to carry out their duties in monitoring the markets and coordinating with the concerned authorities, in order to protect citizens and achieve price justice in light of the current economic conditions. The Al-Fiyoush Police Department called on all citizens to cooperate and report any commercial store that does not adhere to the specified pricing, so that the necessary measures can be taken against it in accordance with the system and the law.
