Arab Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The security committee in Hadramout Governorate, eastern Yemen, warned today, Thursday, of attempts to infiltrate popular demonstrations by elements it described as terrorist and infiltrators affiliated with the Houthi group, stressing its full readiness to deal with any security threats affecting the coastal districts. A high-level security meeting held in Al-Mukalla, chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Security Committee, Commander of the Second Military Region, Major General Staff Talib Saeed Barjash, discussed the latest developments in light of the ongoing demonstrations demanding improved public services. A statement issued by the meeting said that the committee revealed accurate intelligence information confirming the presence of elements affiliated with Al-Qaeda and Houthi organizations seeking to exploit the state of popular anger to incite chaos and carry out sabotage, including distributing funds to some individuals to target military personnel and disturb public order. The committee affirmed that the security and intelligence services have achieved remarkable successes in tracking the movements of prominent leaders in the two organizations, pledging to thwart any plan targeting the security and stability of the governorate. The committee called on the people of the Hadramout coast to cooperate with the authorities, educate young people not to be drawn into sabotage calls or participate in blocking roads and gathering in front of government and military facilities, warning of the legal consequences of such actions. It stressed that the attack on military forces yesterday using live ammunition confirms the seriousness of the imminent dangers and requires dealing with them firmly. This warning comes after the killing of a citizen this morning in the city of Tarim, in Wadi Hadramout, while security forces were dispersing angry protests in the city in protest against the deteriorating living conditions. The Tarim police explained that the bullet was fired as a warning and accidentally hit the citizen, while the director of the Wadi and Desert Hadramout Police Department directed the opening of an immediate investigation into the incident. The cities of Wadi and Sahel Hadramout have been witnessing escalating demonstrations for days, expressing popular anger at the economic collapse and the deterioration of services, amid security warnings of these events turning into riots that affect the stability of the governorate.
