Hadramout ((Arabian Sea)) Special: The ongoing popular protests in Hadramout Governorate, especially in Al-Mukalla city and the coastal cities, have caused the detention of dozens of trucks loaded with vegetables, fruits, and foodstuffs, as a result of the closure of main roads and the complete prevention of traffic. Local sources told the "Arabian Sea" newspaper that the protesters cut off vital roads between Al-Mukalla and neighboring cities, which led to the failure of trucks coming from agricultural areas to reach the central markets in the city, and their accumulation at the entrances of Al-Mukalla for more than 24 hours. Truck drivers confirmed that they are unable to deliver their goods to the markets, which threatens huge financial losses, in addition to the possibility of large quantities of vegetables and fruits being damaged due to their remaining in trucks under the sun and the absence of refrigeration. Citizens in Al-Mukalla complained about the sudden rise in vegetable prices during the past hours, as a result of the scarcity of supply in the markets and the cessation of supply movement, warning of the aggravation of the crisis if the protests continue without solutions. These developments coincide with a wave of popular anger in Hadramout in protest against the deterioration of basic services, especially electricity, and demanding the departure of the local authority, which threatens the collapse of vital services and imposes additional challenges on the livelihood of citizens. Activists called on the local authorities to take urgent action to open the roads and ensure the flow of food commodities, stressing the need not to turn the protests into a means of punishing citizens and deepening their suffering.
