Trump: Gaza ceasefire "possible"
Arabian Sea Newspaper - Special
((Arab Gulf)) Agencies: U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed on Monday that reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza is "possible." His statements came to reporters at his golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland, while meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump had previously affirmed that Israel faces a fateful decision regarding the next phase in Gaza, especially after its withdrawal from ceasefire and hostage exchange negotiations with Hamas. He said: "I don't know what will happen next, but Hamas has suddenly taken a tougher stance regarding the hostage file. It seems they don't want to return them, and therefore Israel will have to make the decision." He added that the Hamas movement does not show a genuine desire to reach a comprehensive agreement that ends the fighting and leads to the release of the hostages. In the same context, the U.S. envoy to the region, Steve Witkoff, said that Hamas's recent response to the U.S.-mediated proposal "reflects a lack of intention to reach an agreement," stressing that the movement "does not seem to be acting in good faith, despite the great efforts made by the mediators." He added: "We are currently looking for alternatives that can help return the hostages and create a more stable environment for the residents of Gaza."
