The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, announced today, Wednesday, that it is participating in a search operation for the body of a hostage in the northern Gaza Strip, in coordination with a team from the International Red Cross. This development comes a day after Hamas handed over remains that it said belonged to one of the last two hostages held in Gaza, but Israeli medical investigations, according to the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, confirmed that the remains did not belong to either of the hostages. The two deceased hostages are believed to be Israeli police officer Ran Gvili and Thai citizen Sudthisak Rinthalak, who were kidnapped during the "Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023," which sparked a devastating war that has been ongoing ever since. The participation of the Al-Quds Brigades in the search operation shows indications of limited field coordination with the Red Cross on humanitarian issues, despite the continuation of military operations.
