The Speaker of Parliament and Assistant Secretary-General of the General People's Congress, Sheikh Sultan Al-Barakani, participated today, Tuesday, in the official event to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the December 2nd uprising, with broad participation from state leaders, members of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, local and military officials, representatives of parties and political organizations, social figures, and civil society organizations. Al-Barakani delivered a speech in which he affirmed that the December 2nd uprising represented a turning point in the history of republican Yemen, and a national stance sparked by the martyred leader Ali Abdullah Saleh and his companion Aref Al-Zoka in the face of the Houthi coup. Al-Barakani renewed the warning against the "conspiracy theory" promoted by some parties regarding the Al-Mukha meeting, stressing that the city is part of Yemen's history, and that today's event comes within the framework of restoring the spirit of the republic. He praised the efforts of the member of the Presidential Leadership Council and commander of the National Resistance, Lieutenant-General Tariq Saleh, pointing to the readiness of tens of thousands of fighters to "complete the battle to restore the state," as he put it. The Speaker of Parliament addressed a special greeting to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, and the members of the Council, calling for unifying the national ranks and closing the gaps of disagreement to confront the Houthis. He added that the stage requires "a unified decision and a firm will" to end the coup and restore state institutions. Al-Barakani also affirmed that Al-Mukha is witnessing a broad development renaissance that includes the rehabilitation of the port, the launch of the Al-Mukha International Airport project, road networks and services, appreciating the great support provided by the United Arab Emirates, and affirming the steadfast fraternal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen politically, humanely and developmentally. Al-Barakani concluded his speech by affirming the loyalty of the General People's Congress and its currents to the symbolism of the late leader Ali Abdullah Saleh, and called for a comprehensive national alignment, directing greetings to the fighters on various fronts, offering mercy to the martyrs and praying for the wounded to recover.
