The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries announced today the issuance of Resolution No. (42) of 2025, which prohibits the fishing, trading, or marketing of sea turtles, both domestically and internationally, as part of its efforts to protect endangered marine species and preserve biodiversity in Yemeni waters. The resolution stipulates the prohibition of catching sea turtles and using or exporting their eggs, with the exception of scientific cases officially licensed by the Ministry. The General Authority for Marine Science and Aquatic Biology Research was also tasked with conducting field studies on the status of turtles in nature reserves and submitting its recommendations and sustainable management plans to ensure the protection of marine species. The resolution stressed the obligation of the competent authorities to implement the prescribed legal procedures and apply the penalties stipulated in Law No. (2) of 2006 and its executive regulations, to ensure the protection and preservation of sea turtles for future generations.
