The Yemeni Peace Committee expresses its concern about the developments in Hadramout and calls for respecting the will of its people. Special - Al-Mukalla The Yemeni Peace Committee expressed its deep concern about the rapid developments taking place in Hadramout Governorate in recent days, stressing its full solidarity with the people of the governorate and their right to manage their local affairs according to their free will and in line with the principles of good governance and the rule of law. In a statement, the committee said that Hadramout Governorate, known for its civil and peaceful character, must remain immune from any attempts to drag it into tension or destabilize its security and stability. It added that "any infringement on the security of Hadramout or any attempt to impose a new reality outside the will of its residents represents a dangerous step for which everyone who seeks to disrupt the social and security fabric of the governorate bears responsibility." The committee pointed out that any disturbance in Hadramout will have serious repercussions that are not limited to Yemen alone, but extend to the region and the international community, especially the Gulf Arab countries, given the strategic, cultural, and economic weight of the governorate and its important geographical location that connects eastern Yemen with its west. The committee called on all parties to give priority to reason and dialogue, respect the privacy of Hadramout, and recognize the right of its people to determine the future of their governorate away from dictates or pressures. It stressed that "the national interest requires that each party exercise its responsibilities within its region, and that the governorates be granted local administration powers in a way that ensures improved services, development, and enhanced security." The Yemeni Peace Committee reiterated its firm position that comprehensive peace begins with respecting the will of local communities and not tampering with the stability of safe governorates, stressing that it will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with the concerned parties to prevent the situation from sliding towards any miscalculated tension.
