UN Envoy Praises Oman's Role in Supporting Yemeni Mediation

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, participated this week in the Muscat Mediation Retreat, where he highlighted the importance of having credible and neutral spaces for dialogue, especially in light of the increasing challenges facing mediation efforts in Yemen and the region. Grundberg stressed that neutral and credible mediation, when provided with the necessary protection and support, is a powerful tool for resolving complex and deep-rooted conflicts, noting that the situation in Yemen is a clear example of the need for such efforts. During the forum's activities, the UN envoy held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of senior regional and international officials, including the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, and the Yemeni Deputy Foreign Minister for Expatriate Affairs, Mustafa Numan, in addition to representatives of Yemeni political parties and components. The discussions focused on the latest developments in Yemen and the region, where Grundberg stressed the importance of continuous coordination between regional and national efforts to support a comprehensive and sustainable political path in the country, stressing that constructive dialogue remains the most effective way to achieve stability. The UN envoy pointed out that such meetings allow for the exchange of views between all parties and enhance the trust necessary for the success of mediation efforts, stressing his appreciation to the Sultanate of Oman for its role in providing a reliable platform for dialogue and its continued support for the Yemeni political process.
