Yemen: Central Bank Responds to Governor's Salary Rumors
Arab Sea Newspaper - Special
The Central Bank of Yemen affirmed today that the news circulating about the bank's governor, Professor Ahmed Ghaleb, receiving $40,000 per month, are "false claims with no basis in truth," noting that the information on which they are based dates back to before 2018, a period when the governor himself was one of the most prominent advocates for correcting incorrect financial practices. The bank clarified that the salaries of the governor, his deputy, and members of the board of directors do not exceed what is paid to any government official of the same rank, and constitute less than 20% of what the governor used to receive in the commercial banking sector previously, and do not exceed one-third of the salary of an executive director in a smaller bank. The bank pointed out that all financial operations are subject to a strict corporate governance system, an independent review committee, in addition to an annual audit by one of the largest global auditing firms. The bank warned against being drawn into rumors and misleading information promoted by some websites, affirming its legal right to take strict measures against any party that publishes these lies.
