Israeli Army Radio said on Monday that it had raised the level of readiness and preparedness in the air defense system in the north, following the assassination of Hezbollah's Chief of Staff, Abu Ali Tabatabai, on Sunday. The radio reported that the army is preparing for a new round of raids and continuing attacks on Lebanon with the aim of weakening Hezbollah, while estimates indicate that the assassination of Tabatabai will not lead to an escalation with the Lebanese militia. The Israeli army suggested the possibility of a response from the Houthi militia in Yemen to the assassination of the second man in Hezbollah, while the Hebrew "Channel 12" said that one of the possibilities for Hezbollah's response is that another organization in Lebanon will launch missiles instead of it. Israel announced on Sunday the assassination of the second man and prominent leader in Hezbollah, Haitham Ali Tabatabai, by targeting a residential apartment that he used as a "secret hideout" in Haret Hreik in the southern suburb of Beirut. The Hezbollah militia acknowledged the assassination, while Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the international community to exert maximum pressure on Israel to reduce its violations.
