The commander of the 22nd Infantry Brigade in the government forces, Brigadier General Abdo Abdullah Al-Mikhlafi, survived an assassination attempt today, Wednesday, by an explosive device that targeted his convoy on the desert road linking the governorates of Marib and Al-Jawf, in the second similar incident for him in less than a month. Media sources reported that the explosion resulted in the death of two of Al-Mikhlafi's escorts, Abdul-Qarib Al-Himyari and Abdul-Salam Al-Qaisi, and the injury of four others with varying degrees of injuries, according to "Yemen Future." Al-Mikhlafi said in a brief statement following the incident: "Such attacks will not deter the armed forces from performing their duty," stressing the continuation of his units in carrying out their military and security tasks on the Al-Jadafer and Al-Salil fronts, east of Al-Jawf Governorate. It is worth mentioning that Al-Mikhlafi previously survived a similar assassination attempt in late October in the Al-Ruwaik desert area, between Marib and Al-Jawf, which led to the death of one of his escorts and the injury of others. He also survived an armed attack in November 2018 that targeted his convoy in the Al-Rawd area on the same road, which resulted in the injury of one of his escorts. Brigadier General Al-Mikhlafi leads the 22nd Infantry Brigade, which is stationed within the units of the Sixth Military Region affiliated with the internationally recognized Yemeni government, which participates in securing the eastern areas of Al-Jawf and confronting armed threats.
