Arab Gulf - Follow-ups: The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in a statement on Tuesday the statements of the far-right Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, who called for the arrest of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the assassination of Palestinian officials, considering it a "clear threat" to the leadership of the Palestinian people. The ministry said in a statement that it "strongly condemns the abhorrent and unacceptable inflammatory statements issued by Ben-Gvir calling for targeting the Palestinian leadership," considering them "a blatant assault and a clear threat to the leadership of the brotherly Palestinian people and an unacceptable direct incitement." On Monday, Ben-Gvir said to reporters, addressing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "If they speed up the recognition of this artificial state, if the United Nations recognizes it, you must order specific assassinations of senior officials in the Palestinian Authority, who are terrorists in every way, and order the arrest of Abu Mazen." The Jordanian Foreign Ministry also condemned "the dangerous escalatory measures in the occupied West Bank and the continuous restrictions on the Palestinian people and the siege of their economy," following another attack by settlers on a Palestinian village. The official spokesman for the ministry, Fouad al-Majali, warned of "the consequences of these measures, which portend further explosions of the situation, threatening the security and stability of the region." He called on the international community to "assume its legal and moral responsibilities and compel Israel to stop its dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank and the racist statements of its officials." The attack took place in the town of Jabaa, after hundreds of police and army personnel dismantled the settlement outpost called Tzur Mesgav, located in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc south of Jerusalem, using bulldozers on Monday. Clashes occurred, and soldiers fired smoke and sound bombs. Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, and it has witnessed an escalation in violence since the outbreak of the war in Gaza. Under international law, all settlements in the West Bank are illegal. However, the Israeli authorities distinguish between settlement outposts, which they consider illegal, and other settlements.
