Egypt continues its efforts to enhance regional stability and support the resumption of dialogue on the Iranian nuclear file, through a series of intensive contacts between the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel-Aati, his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, and the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the telephone calls dealt with following up on the existing cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, stressing "the importance of de-escalation, building confidence, and creating the appropriate conditions for the continuation of cooperation, in a way that allows a real opportunity for diplomatic solutions and reaching a comprehensive agreement on the nuclear file that takes into account the interests of all parties and enhances regional and international security and stability." It is noteworthy that Araqchi and Grossi signed an agreement in Cairo last September to resume inspections of Iranian nuclear facilities, in a step aimed at enhancing transparency and building confidence between the two sides. The contacts also discussed developments related to the upcoming session of the IAEA Board of Governors, where Abdel-Aati stressed "the importance of continuing dialogue within multilateral mechanisms to support the nuclear non-proliferation system at the regional and international levels." For his part, Grossi praised the Egyptian efforts in developing the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, especially the El Dabaa nuclear power plant project, describing it as a model for cooperation between countries and the Agency. In Tehran, Araqchi pointed to the continuation of consultations with the IAEA, expressing his appreciation for the regional efforts that seek to maintain calm and prevent escalation, stressing that "cooperation with the Agency will continue as long as the agreed-upon rules are respected." The contacts also touched on cooperation with Russia, where Abdel-Aati discussed the Iranian nuclear file with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and stressed the need to enhance mutual trust between the parties, in a way that allows the possibility of reaching a comprehensive settlement. It is noteworthy that the implementation of the Cairo agreement faces challenges related to the return of international sanctions on Iran, which complicates the already fragile relationship between Tehran and the IAEA, according to statements by Grossi and Araqchi.
