Local sources in the capital Sana'a reported on Monday that contact has been lost with the academic and Yemeni thinker Dr. Hamoud Al-Awdi, professor of sociology at Sana'a University, after he was summoned by the security and intelligence apparatus of the Houthi group, in mysterious circumstances that raised the concern of academic and civil circles. The sources said that Al-Awdi left his house in the morning in response to the summons, but he did not return until the evening hours, noting that communication with him has been cut off since he left, without any clarification from the Houthi authorities regarding his whereabouts or the reasons for his summons. A number of his colleagues and students expressed their fears that he would be arrested, especially in light of a campaign of raids and detentions that has affected academics and activists in recent days in areas controlled by the group. Activists and human rights activists on social media demanded the immediate disclosure of the fate of Dr. Al-Awdi and ensuring his safety, considering him one of the most prominent Yemeni thinkers calling for dialogue and national reconciliation, and one of the civil voices that called for ending the conflict and restoring state institutions. Sources close to the family also mentioned that two of Al-Awdi's colleagues, Anwar Khaled Shaab and Abdulrahman Al-Alfi, were also arrested, without confirmed information about their detention locations so far.
