Arab Sea - Follow-ups: French President Emmanuel Macron announced this evening, Monday, during a high-level international conference in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, that his country officially recognizes the State of Palestine. Macron said in his speech: "We can no longer wait to recognize the Palestinian state. We bear a collective responsibility for our failure so far to build a just peace in the Middle East." The French President stressed the need to preserve the possibility of implementing the two-state solution, criticizing the continuation of Israeli military operations in Gaza, stressing that "there is no justification for what is happening and the war must be ended to save lives." He also expressed his sympathy with the Israelis, demanding the unconditional release of the prisoners held by Hamas, considering that "the October 7, 2023 attack was shocking to the world." For his part, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan considered the conference "a historic opportunity to achieve peace," calling on countries to recognize Palestine in the face of "Israeli violations in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem." The conference is being held under the joint chairmanship of Saudi Arabia and France, amid a wave of successive international recognitions of the State of Palestine, as Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal joined yesterday, with the expectation that ten other countries will join during the summit.
