Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: Members of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission supporting the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council have called for urgent and decisive measures to achieve justice in the assassination case of Iftihan al-Mashhari, director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Taiz Governorate, who was killed last week by unknown gunmen. In a letter addressed to the Presidential Leadership Council and the Prime Minister, the members stated that the crime represents "a direct targeting of the prestige of the state and a serious threatening message to women working in the public sphere," warning that any delay in confronting it would be a grave dereliction of justice and the legitimacy of the state. The letter called for holding the perpetrators accountable, enhancing the effectiveness of security and military agencies, protecting female leaders, and supporting and honoring the al-Mashhari family. The members said that the assassination of al-Mashhari constitutes "a real test of the state's ability to protect its citizens, especially women," stressing that justice must be achieved quickly and decisively. The killing of al-Mashhari, a figure known for her integrity and work on developing the Cleaning Fund in Taiz, is seen as one of the most prominent assassinations targeting a local official in the governorate, and the first of its kind targeting a woman in a prominent official position in recent years.
