Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: Israeli authorities announced on Wednesday that they had shot down a drone launched by the Houthi group towards Ramon Airport in southern Israel, less than 24 hours after Israeli airstrikes targeted the port of Hodeidah in western Yemen. Hebrew media reported that sirens sounded around Ramon Airport near the city of Eilat after the drone infiltrated the area before air defenses were able to intercept it. The attack comes hours after the military spokesman for the Houthis, Yahya Saree, announced the execution of a special operation using a hypersonic ballistic missile that targeted a "sensitive target in the occupied Jaffa area," along with another operation targeting the same airport. The Israeli army launched 12 airstrikes on the port of Hodeidah yesterday, targeting three docks after a prior warning to evacuate them, as part of what Tel Aviv described as continuing the naval blockade imposed on the Houthis. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz affirmed that his country would continue to "direct painful blows" against the group, warning that any attempt to target Israel would be met with a harsh response. These developments come amid an escalating confrontation between Israel and the Houthis since July 2024, with Israeli airstrikes targeting vital facilities, including the port of Hodeidah and Sanaa International Airport, while the Houthis have intensified their missile and drone attacks against Israeli targets and ships linked to it in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. It is noteworthy that the Houthi group, supported by Iran, has repeatedly announced that its operations come "in support of Gaza," which has been witnessing a devastating war since October 7, 2023, vowing to continue targeting Israel "until the aggression is stopped and the blockade on the sector is lifted."
