Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The Republic of Yemen affirmed that the only way to achieve peace and stability in Yemen and the region is to end the Houthi coup and restore the state, stressing that true peace is based on addressing the roots of the Yemeni crisis and holding accountable the party obstructing peace efforts and ending the conflict. This came in the Republic of Yemen's statement before the Security Council during the open session on the situation in the Middle East (Yemen), delivered by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi. The statement clarified that achieving peace is not limited to managing the crisis, but requires a sincere will and objective conditions to achieve it, prevent the Houthis from reproducing themselves and continuing their tyranny under any cover, and stop the recurrence of conflict. The statement reiterated the Yemeni government's openness to all serious initiatives to stop the war and address the humanitarian crisis. The statement also stressed the keenness of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to adhere to the option of just and sustainable peace in accordance with the agreed-upon references for a political solution, foremost of which is Security Council Resolution 2216, which represents a roadmap for addressing the Yemeni crisis. The statement called on the Security Council and the international community to assume their responsibilities and take serious and firm stances towards the Houthis, to force them to accept the option of peace and abandon the concept of "divine right" to rule Yemenis, as the group sees itself above the law and deals with peace as a means of maneuvering, not a strategic option that serves the interests of the Yemeni people. The statement also urged an end to their terrorist practices, drying up their sources of funding, and preventing the smuggling of weapons to them. The statement affirmed that the Houthi group has continued for more than eleven years in its destructive and escalatory approach, supported by the Iranian regime, avoiding the requirements of peace and undermining all humanitarian efforts, targeting civilians, and practicing violations that include siege, kidnapping, torture, killing, displacement, and destruction of homes and places of worship. The statement pointed out that the Houthi group has planted millions of landmines, recruited thousands of children to fight, and brainwashed them with ideas of hatred and extremism, doubling rates of poverty, unemployment, and internal displacement, and made Yemen a platform for threatening international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and destabilizing the security and stability of the region and the world. The statement also addressed the economic war waged by the group against the state and the people, its looting of state resources and imposition of illegal levies on citizens, and its seizure of ports, taxes, and employee salaries, which has led to the exacerbation of poverty, hunger, and food insecurity, as part of a strategy to prolong the conflict and impose the agenda of the Iranian project. The statement condemned the Houthi group's storming of the headquarters of the United Nations and its organizations, and the kidnapping of 21 employees working for the United Nations, considering this a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a direct threat to the lives of these employees and their families, and an undermining of humanitarian efforts in Yemen. The statement stressed the need to move the headquarters of the United Nations and international organizations from areas under Houthi control to the temporary capital, Aden, to ensure a safe working environment and the continuation of humanitarian and development activities and access to all those in need without restrictions. The statement affirmed the Yemeni government's continued implementation of economic, administrative, and financial reforms, with the support of the Presidential Leadership Council, to enhance economic stability, raise the efficiency of state institutions, and improve basic services, and called on Yemen's development partners and donor organizations and funds to support these efforts to confront the repercussions of the Houthi war. The statement concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuous coordination with international partners to develop support mechanisms and expand its channels to enhance effective partnership and promote the path of economic recovery, while praising the support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in the humanitarian and development aspects.
