Arab Gulf - Follow-ups: The spokesperson for the Algerian Presidency, Samir Agoun, announced yesterday, Sunday, the formation of the new government headed by Sifi Grib, which maintained most of the sovereign portfolios, such as defense, without significant changes. Lieutenant-General Said Chengriha continued in his position as Chief of Staff of the Army and Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense, who is President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Both Lotfi Boujamaa, Minister of Justice, and Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs, retained their portfolios. Attaf headed to Doha to represent the President of the Republic at an Arab and Islamic summit following the Israeli attack that targeted Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital. The energy sector was separated from hydrocarbons, with Mohamed Arkab retaining the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, while Mourad Adjal, the Director-General of the state electricity and gas company, took over the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies. Said Sayoud assumed the position of Minister of Interior, with the addition of the Ministry of Transport to his responsibilities, while a new ministry in charge of state and local community services was assigned to the former Minister of Interior, Ibrahim Murad. The formation witnessed the entry of new faces, most notably Zouhair Bouamama in the Ministry of Communication, who is a professor of political science at the University of Algiers 3, and Professor Mohamed El-Seddik Ait Mesoudan, a cardiologist, as Minister of Health. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had earlier received the acting Prime Minister, Sifi Grib, tasking him with forming the government more than two weeks after the dismissal of former Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui. In his first statement after his appointment, Sifi Grib affirmed that President Tebboune "gave him all the necessary instructions to ensure serving the Algerian citizen first and foremost, and to push the national economy towards a position befitting Algeria as a pivotal state regionally and internationally." Grib added: "I renew my commitment to field work to serve the citizen and consult with all national groups." Nadir Larbaoui's duties ended at the end of August after holding the position since November 2023, and Tebboune appointed the Minister of Industry, Sifi Grib, as acting Prime Minister. It is worth noting that Grib held the position of Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production in Larbaoui's government since October/November 2024, and previously chaired the board of directors of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company.
