Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: Yesterday, Friday, the Houthi group closed six centers for memorizing the Holy Quran and literacy dedicated to women in the Reimah Governorate, as part of an escalating campaign targeting memorization schools in areas under its control. Local sources reported that supervisors affiliated with the group raided a number of villages in the Nowfan isolation in the Al-Salafiyah district, and forced those in charge of the centers in the villages of Nowfan, Al-Buqa'a, Ja'ran, Saqm, Abadah, and Al-Dhabra to stop their educational activities. According to the same sources, the Houthi supervisors informed the officials of those centers that reopening them is contingent on obtaining a permit from the Endowments Office, which is subject to the group, in a move considered an attempt to impose its sectarian curricula and the writings of its founder, Hussein al-Houthi. This measure comes within the framework of a broader campaign carried out by the group to close centers for memorizing the Holy Quran in areas under its control, with the aim of replacing traditional education with its intellectual programs and its own curricula.
