Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: Aidarous al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council and member of the Presidential Leadership Council, issued a series of decisions on Wednesday evening appointing figures to government and leadership positions in several governorates, in a move considered a direct challenge to the authority of the Presidential Council's head, Rashad al-Alimi. The decisions included the appointment of Mohammed Nasser Abdulqawi as head of the Land Authority, and Salah al-Aqel as Deputy Minister of Information, in addition to new agents in the governorates of Shabwa, Abyan, Al-Dhalea, Socotra, Al-Mahra, and Lahj. Observers believe that these appointments outline a "parallel government" outside the powers of al-Alimi, who constitutionally holds the right to appoint and dismiss. These decisions came in parallel with a strongly worded statement issued by the Transitional Council, accusing the power-sharing partners of obstructing the disbursement of salaries and disrupting the Riyadh agreements (2019) and the Riyadh consultations (2022), stressing that "partnership is not built on neglect or exclusion." This coincided with the arrival of President al-Alimi in Aden, accompanied by Sultan al-Arada and Abdullah al-Alimi, to discuss economic recovery and take a package of important decisions.
