Arab Sea - Follow-ups: The U.S. State Department announced that it has updated its instructions for non-immigrant visa applicants, requiring them from now on to conduct their consular interviews in their country of citizenship or residence, while specific locations have been designated for citizens of countries where visa services are not routinely available. Under the update, Yemenis wishing to obtain visas to the United States will have to go to the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, as the only approved location for processing their applications. The list also includes countries such as Afghanistan (Islamabad), Iran (Dubai), Syria (Amman) and Sudan (Cairo). The ministry said that applicants will need to prove their place of residence if their applications are based on residency, warning that fees paid for applying outside the country of citizenship or residence will not be refunded. It added that waiting times may be much longer if applying from outside the home country. The statement confirmed that pre-scheduled appointments will generally not be canceled, with limited exceptions for diplomatic or official visas, in addition to humanitarian or medical cases, or for reasons related to foreign policy. The U.S. State Department called on applicants to review the websites of embassies and consulates to view details of procedures and application requirements.
