Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The Prime Minister, Salem Saleh bin Brik, called on the people of Hadramout to renounce disputes and rally around a comprehensive project that addresses imbalances and unites efforts to build the Hadramout that everyone dreams of, and to put the interests of the citizen above all else, stressing that development cannot be achieved through division and discord. In his speech today, Tuesday, during the launch of the Hadramout Economic and Social Development Plan 2025-2029, the Prime Minister addressed a sincere message to the people of the governorate, saying: "Your unity is your strength, and your solidarity is the way to build a better future. Development is not achieved by division and discord, but by rallying around a comprehensive project that addresses imbalances and unites efforts to build a stable and prosperous Hadramout that contributes to the country's renaissance. Put your differences aside, and put the interests of the citizen above all else." The Prime Minister expressed his happiness at the launch of the development plan, praising Hadramout's historical status, its ancient culture, its rich resources, and the pioneering role of its people, stressing that this plan comes at a critical stage the country is going through, where economic and humanitarian challenges intersect with the people's aspirations for stability and development. He pointed out that the selection of Hadramout to launch the plan reflects the government's awareness of the importance of the governorate and its strategic position as a bridge for communication between Yemen, the region, and the world, and its ability to be a model for sustainable development. He added: "Today, we are not putting a plan on paper, but a clear practical path with specific goals and priorities over five years, focusing on improving basic services, strengthening infrastructure, developing productive sectors, foremost of which are agriculture, fisheries, oil, gas, and minerals, encouraging investments, and empowering women economically and politically." Bin Brik explained that the success of the plan requires an effective partnership between the government, local authorities, and the private sector, with the support of international and regional partners, pointing out that Hadramout was and still is an attractive environment for investment and a major contributor to the national economy. He affirmed that the government will work to provide the necessary facilities for the implementation of the plan, calling on the private sector and national capital to return and invest in the available opportunities in a way that contributes to building the country and advancing it. He also thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Nations Development Program for their technical support and contributions to the preparation of the plan, noting that international cooperation was and still is a fundamental pillar in drawing a common vision for the future of Hadramout and Yemen. The Prime Minister touched on the noticeable improvement in economic indicators recently, such as the stability of the exchange rate and the decrease in the prices of goods and services, stressing that these transformations represent an economic opportunity that must be invested in to enhance confidence between the government and citizens, and to emerge from the economic crisis. Regarding the electricity problem, he described it as the most prominent daily challenge for citizens and one of the reasons for draining the state's resources, announcing that next November will witness the convening of the National Energy Conference to draw up an integrated vision to solve this file and transform it from an economic burden to a tributary of development. The Prime Minister stressed that development in Hadramout is a national necessity that contributes to restoring balance to the economy and alleviating burdens on citizens, stressing that Hadramout can be a beacon of development and peace for all of Yemen. The local authority in Hadramout Governorate launched today the economic and social development plan for the period 2025-2029, in a qualitative event that is a milestone in the development process in the governorate and a new beginning that carries horizons of hope, under the patronage of Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brik, and the Governor of Hadramout, Mabkhout Mubarak bin Madi, and with the support of the United Nations. The launch of the plan came during an official conference in the city of Mukalla, with the presence of representatives of the government, the local authority, donor countries, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector. The plan aims to draw a new future for Hadramout, overcoming years of crises, and moving the governorate from the stage of humanitarian relief to a path of sustainable development solutions, within the area-based development programming approach launched by the United Nations in 2023. The plan is based on four main pillars: developing the development management of the local authority, optimal use of available resources to ensure efficiency and transparency, strengthening security and peace to ensure a stable environment for development, and improving basic services such as health, water, electricity, and education, which face major challenges due to population pressure and the influx of displaced persons. The plan also aims to address the deficit in public service facilities, stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and improve the standard of living for the governorate's residents by taking advantage of its promising resources and comparative advantages. Representatives of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United Nations, Japan, and China, in their speeches, agreed on the importance of the plan as a qualitative step towards recovery and development, affirming their commitment to continue support and contribute to its success.
