Arab Sea Newspaper - News Updates
Arab Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The Economic Studies and Media Center issued a policy paper today, Sunday, entitled "Entrepreneurship in Marib: A Reading of Obstacles and Proposed Policies," which highlighted the reality of the business environment in the governorate, the challenges it faces, and the policies that would enhance investment opportunities and entrepreneurial projects. The paper indicated that Marib Governorate has witnessed a significant economic expansion since 2015 due to increasing waves of displacement, with the number of registered economic activities reaching more than 19,000 by the end of 2024, most of which are concentrated in Marib city. However, despite this growth, entrepreneurs in Marib face significant challenges, most notably: the absence of a local strategic vision, weak infrastructure, especially electricity, roads, and the Internet, complex government procedures, the absence of a specialized commercial court, and difficulty in obtaining affordable financing, in addition to the limited integration of entrepreneurship concepts in education and training. The paper presented a set of proposed policies, including: formulating a local strategic vision for entrepreneurship linked to the needs of sustainable development, updating the legal and regulatory framework, and establishing a specialized commercial court. The paper also touched on the importance of simplifying government procedures through "one-stop shop" centers and unified electronic platforms for registration and licensing, and improving infrastructure, including completing the second phase of the Marib gas station and maintaining roads. The paper also called for enhancing financing opportunities through affordable financial instruments and activating the role of banks and micro and small enterprise financing institutions, in addition to supporting entrepreneurial education and establishing business incubators and innovation centers to enable young people to turn their ideas into productive projects. The paper emphasized that developing the entrepreneurship environment in Marib requires integrated efforts between the local government, the private sector, and civil society, in a way that contributes to empowering young people and investors and enhances opportunities for sustainable economic growth in the governorate. It is worth mentioning that the Economic Studies and Media Center is a civil society organization working for a successful and transparent Yemeni economy by raising awareness of economic and development issues, promoting transparency and good governance, and creating professional and professional media.
