Arab Gulf - Follow-ups: The Arab League said in a statement following a ministerial meeting in Cairo that concluded on Friday that the sustainability of coexistence in the region cannot be relied upon with the continuation of Israeli "hostile practices," its occupation of Arab lands, and the threat to occupy or annex others. The League reiterated that the failure to resolve the Palestinian issue peacefully has led to the outbreak of "rounds of violence." In a document following its meeting that concluded on Friday in Egypt, the Arab League considered peaceful coexistence in the Middle East impossible, given Israel's continued "hostile practices," its occupation of Arab lands, and its pursuit of annexing others. On Thursday, the body adopted, during a ministerial-level meeting at its headquarters in Cairo, the "Joint Vision for Security and Cooperation in the Region" presented by Egypt and Saudi Arabia, which spoke of "undermining all paths to peace, security, and stability, especially through Israel's continued, unhindered, absurd war on the Gaza Strip and the serious violations of killing, siege, starvation, annexation of land, settlement, and attempts to displace the Palestinian people." The resolutions issued by the League stressed "the impossibility of relying on the sustainability of any arrangements for cooperation, integration, and coexistence between the countries of the region in light of Israel's continued occupation of some Arab lands or the threat to occupy or annex other Arab lands." In its statement, the Arab League reiterated that "the absence of a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue is the main reason for the outbreak of rounds of violence" in the region, noting that this settlement is achieved through the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, known as land for peace, and Tel Aviv's withdrawal to the lines of June 4, 1967, and the embodiment of the Palestinian issue. Tunisia and Iraq reserved their positions on some expressions in this last paragraph. For its part, Egypt praised the decision and affirmed that "there is no room to allow any party to dominate the region or impose unilateral security arrangements that detract from the region's security and stability." There is a peace agreement between Egypt and Jordan with Israel, while the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco signed normalization agreements with the Hebrew state in 2020. Saudi Arabia was negotiating with Tel Aviv on normalization until October 7, 2023, with the outbreak of the war between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip, which caused these negotiations to stop.
