Arab Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has called for urgent action to support the peace process and revive the economy and long-term development. In a report on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, the organization warned that humanitarian aid, while important for saving lives, cannot be a permanent solution to the crisis that has been going on for years. It also clarified that the Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen for 2025 aims to assist 10.5 million of the most vulnerable people, at a total cost of $2.47 billion, but the funding rate has so far not exceeded 13.6 percent. The organization appealed to the international community to provide $212 million to enable it to provide basic assistance to eight million people, including 5.2 million children, noting that humanitarian needs are increasing with the continuation of the conflict, economic collapse, and climate challenges, according to "Belqees Net." Earlier, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Protection Cluster estimated in a joint report that about 17 million people in Yemen need protection assistance. The report explained that the needs include multiple areas such as housing, land and property rights, access to civil documents, child protection, prevention of gender-based violence, in addition to dealing with mines and explosive remnants of war, and supporting people with disabilities. According to the report, protection experts expect the situation to worsen during the current year 2025 due to the possibility of escalating conflict, increasing insecurity, deteriorating economic and humanitarian conditions, and rising risks of natural disasters and epidemics, in addition to limited humanitarian access and a shortage of funding and capabilities.
