Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) revealed today, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, that it has recorded more than five thousand cases of acute watery diarrhea in the governorates of Ibb and Al Hudaydah since last April. The organization stated in a report that the diarrhea treatment center it runs in Al Qa'idah city in Ibb Governorate (central Yemen) received 4,705 patients between April and the end of August, 81% of whom suffered from moderate to severe dehydration. The report indicated that the rate of infections increased significantly with the start of the rainy season in the governorate, which forced the organization to double the center's capacity from 50 to 100 beds. In Al Hudaydah Governorate (western Yemen), the organization treated more than 990 people with watery diarrhea during the same period, where it supported Al Zaydiyah Rural Hospital with a diarrhea treatment center with a capacity of 30 beds, in addition to establishing two oral rehydration points in the Al Zaydiyah and Ad Dahi districts. For her part, Desma Maina, head of the organization's mission in Yemen, said: "While we continue to provide life-saving care and emergency response to patients with acute watery diarrhea, we are deeply concerned about the increasing pressure on the exhausted health system in Yemen." She added: "Without sustained and adequate humanitarian assistance, the population will continue to face life-threatening obstacles to accessing basic health care. What we unfortunately see, especially during the past year, is that humanitarian aid to Yemen is decreasing significantly, and that the gap between needs and available services is deepening day by day."
