Special/Follow-ups A court in the US state of Michigan has sentenced a Yemeni employee named Muath A. to 20 to 50 years in prison after convicting him of killing a customer inside a gas station in Detroit, following a dispute between them over a package of "Beef Jerky." The details of the incident date back to 2023, when the victim, Anthony McNary, entered the "Exxon Mobil" station located on Vernor Street in Detroit and placed a package of "Beef Jerky" in his pocket. The matter escalated into a verbal altercation with the employee, Muath, who retrieved the package from the customer and returned it to its place. Later, McNary tried to pay for the package, but the employee refused and deliberately prevented him from entering again by manually closing the store door. According to surveillance camera recordings, Muath directly shot the victim in the head from behind the store's glass, killing him instantly. The jury convicted the employee of second-degree murder, and the sentence was issued against him last Friday, amid assurances from the judicial authorities that the use of weapons in such situations, even if motivated by retaliation or protection, may fall under serious criminal offenses and warrant the most severe penalties.
