Lebanese expectations of the failure of the US envoy's mission to "confine weapons."
Arab Sea Newspaper - Special
Arab Gulf - Reports: Lebanese media circulated, on Saturday evening, the stalemate in the issue of weapons exclusivity, after the Israeli government openly stated its unwillingness to take any step towards a solution before the complete withdrawal of illegal weapons, while Israeli reconnaissance drones continued to fly over southern Lebanon yesterday, at a faster pace than usual. The Lebanese army announced the dismantling of an Israeli spy device planted in southern Lebanon. Observers on the Lebanese scene believe that the announcement issued by the Israeli government, which included Israel's refusal to take any step towards a solution before the complete withdrawal of illegal weapons, represents a failure of the mission of the American envoy Thomas Barack, after expectations had spread about the possibility of adopting a parallel steps approach based on mutual concessions made by both Israel and "Hezbollah" in a way that leads to them meeting halfway. It was remarkable in this matter, which one of the local television stations reported from Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Mitri, that the American paper carried by Barack had fallen, after the envoy returned to Lebanon without an Israeli response. This means that Lebanon is now free from that paper. He later clarified in a tweet that he did not say that the American paper had fallen. This phrase was said by the interviewer, what I said was that Barack did not come from Israel with anything new. In the same context, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam commented, saying, "We are not committed to the American paper, but to its goals after we introduced the amendments that we saw fit us, and we are still committed to those goals." He added that in the meantime, the Lebanese government will hold a session next Friday to discuss measures for weapons exclusivity in light of the plan submitted by the army based on the mandate of the Council of Ministers. On the security front, the Lebanese army announced yesterday, Saturday, the dismantling of a spy device planted by the Israeli army in the Yaroun - Bint Jbeil farm in southern Lebanon. The army explained in a statement that within the framework of following up on engineering survey operations in the southern regions, a specialized military unit found a camouflaged spy device equipped with a camera planted by the Israeli army, and the unit worked to dismantle it. The army command called on citizens to stay away from suspicious objects, not to touch them, and to report them to the nearest military center, in order to preserve their safety. Israeli drones flew silently over the Iqlim al-Tuffah, Ain Qana, Sarba, Houmin al-Fawqa, Kfarfila al-Zahrani regions.
