Advisor Ahmed Ali Jahaf Launches a Rescue Cry from Sana'a: The Situation is Collapsing and "Sana'a is Dying" Sana'a - Friday, June 27, 2025 Yemeni Advisor Ahmed Ali Jahaf launched an urgent appeal to save the capital, Sana'a, and northern Yemen from what he described as a "comprehensive disaster" threatening people, the economy, and the nation, calling for urgent and responsible action to rectify the situation and stop the collapse. In a strongly worded statement entitled: "Sana'a is Dying... A Call to Save Northern Yemen," Jahaf called for a review of the policies and legislation he described as "catastrophic," which, according to him, have led to economic and social isolation, capital flight, widespread corruption, and deteriorating living conditions and services, noting that the capital, Sana'a, has become an environment that repels investors and talents. Advisor Jahaf affirmed that "Sana'a of civilization and history" is suffering today from poverty, hunger, and mismanagement, and that northern Yemen has turned into an area of isolation and emigration, while the south is witnessing a state of economic openness and polarization. Specific Demands for Reform Jahaf called for urgent measures to save the situation, most notably: * Abolishing the law prohibiting usurious transactions, which he described as the "disaster law." * Ending parallel entities to the government and granting full powers to the government of change and construction in accordance with the constitution. * Canceling the decision to ban the circulation of new editions of the local currency and adopting real exchange rates. * Opening roads between governorates without delay, whether through consensus or unilaterally. * Stopping excessive levies and moving from "taxation to care." * Releasing prisoners of conscience and all those against whom no charge has been proven through a fair and independent judiciary. * Reaching an agreement in the north and south to resume oil and gas production and export, unify monetary policies, neutralize the economy, and abolish sectional laws, leading to a fair federal state. A Call to Emulate Iran's Experience in Dialogue and Retreat Referring to regional conflicts, Advisor Jahaf pointed out that Iran, despite receiving painful blows from America and Israel, accepted a ceasefire and negotiations, asking: "So, do we emulate, be guided, review, and retreat before it is too late?" An Open Cry to Everyone Jahaf directed his call to all components of Yemeni society, foremost among them: * The political leadership and national authorities. * The House of Representatives and the Shura Council, considering them "paralyzed" due to the passage of catastrophic legislation. * The cultural, academic, and media elites to sound the alarm. * Parties, unions, and all the people of Yemen without exception. He concluded his statement by emphasizing that "the issue is saving a nation," calling for practical and intellectual interaction, and for the adoption of peaceful and just solutions to end the suffering of citizens and preserve the dignity of the Yemeni people.
