Yemen: 3 deaths and about 3,000 families affected by floods in Marib

Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Marib Governorate announced the registration of widespread damage caused by heavy rains and floods that struck several directorates during the past weeks, leading to the death of 3 people and the injury of 5 others. A preliminary report issued by the unit stated that the disaster caused damage to about 2,944 families, including 464 families who lost their homes and property completely, while 2,480 families suffered partial damage as a result of collapses and damage to homes and facilities. According to the report, Marib City Directorate topped the list of affected areas with 1,634 families, followed by Marib Al-Wadi Directorate with 678 families, then Al-Abdiya with 112 families, while Harib Directorate recorded damage to 56 families. The report also indicated the death of more than 563 heads of livestock and the destruction of 2,281 shelters for displaced people, which exacerbated the extent of material and human losses. The Executive Unit confirmed that its field teams are continuing to go down to assess the damage and provide data to government agencies and humanitarian organizations, warning of the worsening of humanitarian and health conditions unless urgent intervention is taken to provide assistance. The report called on local authorities and humanitarian agencies to respond quickly and provide food, shelter, water and health services to those affected, and to implement urgent and sustainable solutions to reduce the recurrence of the effects of torrents and floods.
