Arabian Sea - Yemen - Special: The General Committee of the General People's Congress Party in Sana'a, loyal to the Houthi group, announced its unanimous approval of the organizational oversight report, which recommended canceling the decision to promote Brigadier General Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh to the position of third vice president of the party and expelling him from the Congress membership, according to what was confirmed by the Congress leader in Sana'a, Hussein Hazeb. The decision comes amid increasing pressure exerted by the Houthi group on the Congress Party in its areas of control, including preventing any events to mark the 43rd anniversary of the party's founding on August 24, in a move that observers considered evidence of the continued policy of restricting the Congress and subjecting it entirely to the will of the group. Observers believe that this step reflects the Houthis' fear of the return of Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, the son of the late Yemeni president, to the political scene as a figure who may enjoy widespread support internally and externally, in light of the continued division of the party between its wings at home and abroad. In the first response from the Congress wing outside Sana'a, the Speaker of Parliament, Sultan Al-Barakani, criticized the decision, describing it as "laughable" and issued by "a group that does not have the legal or organizational right," adding that those behind these steps "have become a tool in the hands of the Houthis." For his part, the member of the Presidential Leadership Council and leader of the National Resistance, Tariq Saleh, commented on the developments, stressing that the Houthis are continuing their policy of repression and arrests in their areas of control in order to break the will of the Yemenis as the anniversary of the September 26 revolution approaches. He added in a post on the "X" platform that "liberating Sana'a from the bloodshed of the militias and disarming them represents the path to restoring the republic and the rule of the constitution and the law."
