Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that 70 Yemeni families, comprising approximately 420 people, were internally displaced during the week of August 17-23, 2025, mostly due to natural disasters such as heavy rains and floods. In its weekly displacement tracking report, the organization stated that 63% of the displacement cases, equivalent to 44 families, were a direct result of floods and storms, while 13 families (19%) were displaced for security reasons, and others due to economic conditions related to the conflict. The report indicated that the rate of displacement during the past week decreased by 16% compared to the previous week (August 10-16), which witnessed the displacement of 83 families (498 people). According to data from the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), Hadramout Governorate was the most affected, recording 41 displaced families (all internally displaced) – the first time since the beginning of the year that Hadramout has topped the list of governorates receiving displaced persons. Marib came in second place with 18 families, followed by Taiz, which received 11 families from areas such as Sana'a and Aden. The report confirmed that 68% of displaced families expressed an urgent need for shelter, while 17% indicated a need for cash support, 9% for food aid, and 6% lacked livelihoods. The organization also added that its teams monitored 41 other displaced families in the governorates of Taiz, Marib, Al Dhale'e, and Al Hudaydah, which were not included in the data of previous weeks, and were included in the total cumulative displacement for this year. According to the organization's statistics, 1,919 families (approximately 11,514 people) have been internally displaced in Yemen since the beginning of this year until August 23.
