The local authority in Taiz Governorate commemorated today the 40th-day memorial of the martyrdom of community activist Iftihan Al-Mashhari, who passed away while performing her mission in serving the nation and society, amidst a wide official and popular presence that embodied her place in the hearts of the governorate's people. In a speech during the event, the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, described Al-Mashhari's martyrdom as a "humanitarian and national tragedy," stressing that the crime was not only targeting her personally, but "a stab to all the values of light and goodness in Taiz and Yemen." He added that the incident constituted a renewed moment of community awareness and awakened in people the spirit of resistance to corruption, violence, and injustice. Shamsan said: "The people of Taiz have proven that they are up to the responsibility when they came out with one voice rejecting treachery and tampering with the lives of the honorable, confirming that Taiz was and will remain a city of peace, dignity, and justice." During the event, the Governor, along with the Chief of Staff of the Taiz Axis, Major General Abdulaziz Al-Majeedi, presented the Shield of Loyalty and Duty to the martyr's father in appreciation of her sacrifices and national loyalty, while the attendees expressed their solidarity with her family and their adherence to the path of justice until she is vindicated. For his part, Zaid Al-Mashhari, the martyr's brother, stressed that "Iftihan's case is not a family issue, but an issue of the entire community," stressing the family's rejection of any attempts to politicize or exploit the incident outside the framework of justice and the law. The event included various segments, including a documentary presentation of the martyr's journey, and elegiac poems by the poets Hammoud Khaled Al-Sufi and Al-Asali, which expressed sadness and pride at the same time. Speeches were also delivered from the University of Taiz and the National Women's Committee in the governorate, expressing the academic and women's community's pride in the martyr's legacy and achievements. The speeches affirmed that Iftihan Al-Mashhari will remain a symbol of the courageous Yemeni woman who faced challenges with faith and determination, and a timeless name in the memory of Taiz and the nation.
